Vintage clear label under glass apothecary bottle that originally contained Crocus (saffron), which was used to provide a yellow color to pharmaceutical preparations. It was also believed to be a mild stimulant and antispasmodic, and was also prescribed for "hysteria and nervous disorders". This is a HUGE salt-mouth style bottle with an Enagon (thumbprint) ground glass stopper (which is loose). It is a modified square (about 4 1/2 in) and stands 12 in tall, weighing over 3 lbs! It was made by Fay & Scheuler Label Co (St Louis) in the late 1890's to 1910's per the mold mark. There is a tiny flake on the top of the lip on the front side, along with manufacturing bubbles in the glass (see pictures). The black and white label with gold trim is in excellent condition with no damage to the cover glass. Overall is in very good vintage used condition.
